2/5/25 Hard Truth: Knowing The Hard Truths is Better Than Not
On knowing the hardships of our nations history
Hard Truth:
Black History Month was created to uplift, support, and celebrate the Black community in the United States. Recent efforts brought forth in bills, stopped the acknowledgement of the month, and pulled from curriculum has directly effected this month. And you wanna know why? Because they don’t want us to know the truth about our history. Because it doesn’t paint the United States (cough *white people*) in the most favorable light. Because they (the current administration) want to teach the American children how AmAzInG the United States is by only highlighting the good stuff, or the white washed version of our history.
This history is important though. Because first, once we learn the truth of what happened, why, and the consequences, in *theory* we can prevent these things from happening again.
So while the United States Military may have pulled educating people about the Tuskegee Airmen, it’s important we still know about and celebrate their contributions to the US Military.
Now Tuskegee also have a important history we need to know about. The Tuskegee Syphilis Study that led to the deaths of many Black Men due to lies and lack of treatment for Syphilis.
Want to learn more about both the airmen and the Syphilis study?
Here are a few podcasts I reccomend:
Stuff You Should Know: Tuskegee Airmen: American Heroes.
You’re Wrong About: Tuskegee Syphilis Study Part 1: The Lie (and of course go on to the other parts as well)
American Scandal: Tuskegee Syphilis Study
This is the history they don’t want you to know. Because it’s hard to know that white people have been the enemy. How do you think history books will reflect the white people of today? Yea…not favorable. But hopefully our future generations will learn from the mistakes we’re making of learning learning from history.
